半世紀に渡り後進作家に多大な影響を与え続ける作家・榎忠、16年ぶりのノマル個展
版画で会場の壁・床面を埋め尽くす迫力のインスタレーション‼︎
神戸を拠点とする作家・榎忠は、70年代から現在にいたるまで、身体を使った型破りなパフォーマンスをはじめ、銃や大砲などの武器を題材として扱ったり、金属の廃材に新しい生命を吹き込み作品化したりと、ユニークで社会にインパクトを与える活動を行ってきました。彼の先見性と表現することへの誠実さ、作品を生み出す並外れたエネルギーは、驚き・感嘆とともに、世代・地域を超えた多くの人々を虜にしています。
ノマルでは、2006年に「Everyday Life/Art」を開催して以来、実に16年ぶりの個展となります。前展は、初の作品集「EVERYDAY LIFE/ART:ENOKI CHU」の出版記念展として、榎のそれまでの活動を総括する内容でしたが、今回は"2022年現在の榎忠"をご覧いただく完全新作展となります。
昨秋、榎が70年代当時使用していた戦闘機ドローイングの版をノマルのシルクスクリーン技術で復元したことから計画はスタート。さらにその頃世間を賑わせていた、海底火山から噴出された軽石が日本各地の海岸へ漂着したという話題が榎のイマジネーションを掻き立て、「軽石(Pumice)」がモチーフのひとつとなりました。
展示では、ノマルとのコラボレーションで生まれた大量のシルクスクリーン版画が会場を埋め尽くし、榎の壮大な世界を作り上げます。新しいことに挑戦しながらも、衰えを知らない創作への圧倒的な熱量と、怒りにも似た強烈なメッセージ、そして昨今の社会情勢を見通したかのような先見性には、"榎忠ここにあり"を肌身で体感できる空間となることでしょう。
78歳となる榎忠が現代に投げかける渾身の新作展、是非ともご注目くださいますよう、よろしくお願いいたします。

Pumice
46億年という想像できないほど前に地球が生まれ、マグマが地上に噴出し、あらゆる事物を出現させ、鉄が生まれ、本当にたまたま人間が生まれ、ひとりでは生きられないから社会を作り、平和のためにと原爆を作り、人間の欲望で宇宙や自然を破壊しています。
2021年に海底火山の大規模な噴火が起きました。大量に噴出した軽石─Pumice は、地球内部から噴出したマグマが急冷されて固まったものです。大量の軽石は、波風にのり、沖縄へ、そして大阪Nomartへ流れ流れてきました。
自分のおよばない世界への想像力を武器に、戦わないという戦いのため生涯闘い続ける!!

Chu Enoki, an artist who has been exerting profound influence on younger artists for half a century, will hold his first solo exhibition in 16 years at Gallery Nomart.
The powerful installation of a full arrange of prints on the wall and floor of the venue.
Chu Enoki, an contemporary artist who is based on Kobe, Japan, has been working on his artistic activities that make an impact on society from 1970s , including unconventional performance using his body, the works using guns, cannons and other weapons as subject matters, and bring the scarp metal to life as art works. His foresight, sincerity in expression, and extraordinary energy in creating artworks, have captivated many people across generations and regions with surprise and admiration.
At Gallery Nomart, this is his first solo exhibition in 16 years since the exhibition "Everyday Life/Art” was held in 2006. The previous exhibition was held to commemorate the publication of his first portfolio "EVERYDAY LIFE/ART:ENOKI CHU”, which summarized Enoki’s activities up to that point, and this time is the new works exhibition that shows "Enoki now in 2022".
The project began last autumn when Enoki restored the print plates used on making his fighter drawing in 1970s with Nomart’s silkscreening technology. Moreover, the topic that pumice ejected from undersea volcanos had drifted to the shores all over Japan drove the Enoki’s imagination, and “Pumice” became one of the motifs of the exhibition since then.
In the exhibition, the venue will be filled with a large amount of silkscreen prints collaborated with Gallery Nomart, which constructs Enoki’s splendid world of art. Even through it is a new challenge for him, with a overwhelming enthusiasm for creation that shows no sign of abating, strong message similar to anger, and the foresight that seems to foresee the current social situation, it will be a space where you could really feel “Enoki is here”.

Pumice
The earth was born 4.6 billion unimaginable years ago, magma erupted on the earth, all kinds of things started to appear, iron was born, human appeared by chance, the society was built because we are unable to live alone, automatic bombs were made for peace, and the universe and nature are being destroyed by human desires.
In 2021, a massive eruption of an undersea volcano occurred. A large amount of Pumice- was the substance that ejected from the earth's interior and solidified and cooled rapidly when magma erupted from the interior of the earth. The large amount of pumice was carried by wind and waves to Okinawa, and to Gallery Nomart in Osaka.
With the imagination for the world that beyond my reach, I will keep fighting for the life that is a battle of no fighting!!
