新進気鋭の画家・山田千尋、4回目となるノマルでの個展ー
「SF」と題した既視感ある少し奇妙な世界を旅する新作展

通常目を向けられることのない歪なモチーフ(例えば傷口のディティールや動物の遺骸)や記憶の中にある風景などを、軽やかな色彩と透き通るような質感を感じさせる筆跡で描く画家、山田千尋。2016年に京都市立芸術大学美術学部美術科油画専攻を卒業以降、絵画と自己の表現を模索・探求しながら、独自のスタイルを確立しつつあります。
山田の描く常識的なものの見方、捉え方に一石を投じるかのような絵画は、その視点のユニークさだけでなく、物事をあらゆる角度から偏見なく捉え、かけがえのないものへと昇華する彼女の思考そのものと合わせて、多くの共感と人気を獲得しています。

2021年以降3年連続して開催してきたノマルでの個展では、毎回新たなテーマを上げて表現の拡張と深化にチャレンジ。繊細なタッチはそのままに、過去の限定的なモチーフだけでなくより普遍的で抽象度の高まった作品は、見る人に様々なイメージを喚起させ、より人気を博することに成功しています。
今展では、新しいテーマとしてSF映画のイメージから想起された「SF」をタイトルとしました。日常の中で見られる少し奇妙で映像のような一シーンを切り取り、彼女の視点とフィルターを通して私たちに提示します。現実と非現実とが重なり合う、山田千尋が織りなす不思議な視覚の世界を、今展でご体感ください。どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

[Artist Statement]

日常の景色がふとSF映画の一場面のように見えることがあります。

そのとき、昔見た映画を思い出しているような、未来を想像しているような、不思議な違和感を覚えます。

今展では、SF映画を想起させる景色を描くことで、自分の中に生まれるこうした違和感を捉えたいと考えています。

山田千尋 Chihiro Yamada



Emerging painter Chihiro Yamada presents her fourth solo exhibition at Nomart—
a new body of work titled SF, inviting viewers on a journey through a slightly uncanny yet strangely familiar world.

Yamada paints irregular motifs that seldom receive close attention—such as the details of wounds or the remains of animals—as well as landscapes drawn from memory. Using light, airy colors and brushstrokes that evoke a translucent texture, she has continued to explore painting and her own mode of expression since graduating from Kyoto City University of Arts with a BFA in Oil Painting in 2016, gradually establishing her own distinctive style.

Her paintings, which seem to question conventional ways of seeing and understanding, resonate with many for more than just their unique perspectives. They also reflect her way of thinking—one that approaches subjects without prejudice from every angle and elevates them into something irreplaceable—earning her both empathy and broad popularity.

In her three consecutive solo exhibitions at Nomart since 2021, Yamada has taken on a new theme each year, challenging herself to expand and deepen her expressive range. While maintaining her delicate touch, her works have grown beyond earlier, more limited motifs to embrace increasingly universal and abstract subjects. These works stimulate a variety of images in the viewer’s mind and have contributed to her rising acclaim.

For this exhibition, she has chosen SF—a title inspired by imagery from science-fiction films—as her new theme. She captures slightly strange, cinematic moments found in everyday life and presents them to us through her own unique viewpoint and filter. We invite you to experience the mysterious visual world woven by Chihiro Yamada, where reality and unreality gently overlap.

During the exhibition period, two live music events will also be held, each featuring internationally recognized musicians as guests. We hope you will join us for these performances as well.


[Artist Statement]

There are moments when an ordinary scene suddenly appears like a frame from a sci-fi movie.
At such times, I feel a strange sense of dissonance—as if I were recalling a film I once saw, or imagining a future yet to come.
In this exhibition, by painting scenes that evoke science-fiction films, I hope to capture this sense of unease that arises within me.
